Machinery and Tools

Below are examples of many of the machines that you will find within the wood workshop. We have also included several video clips to familiarize our students with how a certain machine works. We will always provide students and staff with one to one inductions on each machine as and when they are ready to use it.

Bandsaws
Our workshop boasts several bandsaws of various sizes. The first one pictured here, is the real workhorse capable of cutting through extremely thick material. Our smallest machine, located in Small Works, is bench mounted with a fine blade for fine, intricate work.

With these machines we are able to fit a large selection of drill bits enabling the user to drill a hugh variety of holes.

Wood Lathe
Our Lathe is a lovely machine of great quality and yet despite its years, still allows the user to create beautifully turned objects time and time again. Used for the production of spindles and bowls and components and shapes. a real favourite with all students that get the chance to do some wood turning.

Morso Cutter
The Morso cutter is a machine that aids the process of frame making. It cuts lengths of timber giving them perfect 45 degrees corners ready for assembly.

Air Tools
At Chelsea we are fortunate to have a good selection of air powered tools. They have simplified a great many jobs whilst maintaining the highest quality. To view a short film on how to set up and use the air tools please follow the link.

Used to heat an exact line on a piece of plastic to allow perfect bends at any degree
Hot Wire Cutter
Used for cutting dense foam and polystyrene into shapes and forms
Vacuum formers
Used to form heated and softened sheet plastic over a mould for accurate and often repetitive forms
