The Beast has Arrived
The Rootstein Hopkins parade ground, here at Chelsea College, has seen many an interesting Art work displayed over the years, several of which fall into the category of modes of transport. The latest piece to grind to a halt with the back drop of Tate Britain is rather appropriately named, The Beast. The work of Artist and 3D workshop colleague, Francis Thorburn, is the thirteenth in a series of works researching the potential of man powered transport 'for the fast approaching age of the petrol-less world' all forming part of The Ministry of Alternative Transport (M.A.T)

The countdown to christmas
So as we hit the last two weeks of term the creativity and energy in the Wood Workshop here at Chelsea, shows no signs of letting up. The latest course to come and work with us have been students from the Graduate Diploma course in Interior Design. Working on a hotel project many of them have been making models and for most of them, for the first time. Below are some images taken from the past few days.
BA Fine Arts Eva creates a very interesting styrene form by heat moulding it.
Graphics students have been with us again making more letters.
Graduate Diploma Interior Design students take over small works as they get busy model making
The Vacuum former put to good use creating what will become a ceiling detail.
Every inch of the table being used here!
Several design solutions to put walls onto a base. Here we see slots...
and here we see locating rods into holes.
Nice use of two materials here and plenty of techniques as these bent acrylic pieces get placed within slots in this Fine Art third year structure

During the festive period we will have our very own unique Wood Workshop countdown to Christmas. Follow us as we post up some obscure number images that we come across during our days, which will form our advent calendar.
