The home straight.

And so we enter the last full week that students have to complete their work ahead of assessment. The Wood Workshop has the usual faces with us putting the finishing touches to various pieces. Its amazing to think that another year has gone by and we are only a couple of weeks away from the degree show. I am sure this years will be great. Below are a few images taken from the last few days.

Azadeh and Chemsi looking pleased with their final model for the FDA show

Graphics student Jack squeezes into his wooden frame ready to be clad in fabric
Slicing foam.
Gerald's original sketch model that we used to help us make his final MDF model in the next photo. It was very helpful!

First shot of the inside of Pragya's model. Final paint still to go on but it does look very realistic.
There has been a lot of this in the past few days....
and even more of this!
Nice little stair detail
Libby still hard at it filing her column down.
The product of some very hard work!

The Perfect Storm

Its been an interesting week down with us in the Wood Workshop. Its not often you get students from various year groups and disciplines working towards different shows and exhibitions. We have been joined by students from MA Interior design, 2nd Year Textiles as well as the BA students finalising work for their degree show. We have weathered this storm and had some very lovely pieces being made. Below are a selection of images taken from the past week.

Marc from MA ISD works on his prototype for a rotating device
Tom cracks on with his cabinet but lets hope not literally as the glass has just gone in!
Libby has her column ready for John to make a cut.
And a nice pose for the camera.
Graduate Diploma ISD student Pragya begins to fit her self made columns to the cut out walls.
Phil introduces at yesterday evening late session. This one was all about show build and aimed at the 3rd year Fine Art students. Great turnout with around 30 in attendance.
We made sure many of the students got hands on with the equipment. Here we are constructing a timber framed wall.

Rueben from MA ISD looks very pleased with his recycled plinth that he has turned into a projection stand.
Pragya's columns looking very nice indeed.
Its starting to fill up with big work down this end of our workshop.
This is a scaled model taking shape of the interior layout of the hotel in the film 'The Shining'. Stef is helping Fine Art student Gerald build this one.
And with the mezzanine floor inserted.
And a view down to the grand staircase.
Kok Yi seemingly engulfed in her installation for a performance piece that will be part of her Fine Art show

No time to breath....just yet.

These past days have seen some high numbers of students down with us in the Wood Workshop with some amazing consistency from certain courses who seem to be hitting the same figures week in week out. It's not surprising as the same faces join us to complete their final work in time for various assessments and of course the big one, degree show. Below are some images taken form the past few days.

Small Works, Big mess but a very productive mess it is!
2nd Year ISD Gabriella working on her blind
Nice bit of line bending done for this acrylic roof.
 Start with a square.....
 and end with a circle.
Ellenora's decrepit flats taking shape.

The early stages of Libby from Fine Arts final piece.
3rd Year ISD, Bernette, fixes the hinge to his lovely detailed rings.
We are thinking of using his idea to hang our aprons on!
I hope the library doesn't find out about this!

Steady hand required for this work on the Bobbin Sander
The finished 'run down' apartments.

Thats Isabelle!

Its not often you get to see one of your colleagues immortalised on the front cover of a magazine, but that has happened to our very own Isabelle Tasseff-Elenkoff. A painting by former Chelsea student, Alice White finds itself on the 'NYX ; a nocturnal' magazine. Below is how NYX puts it.

'Chelsea Graduate Alice White has taken inspiration from the materials-savvy Technician Isabelle Tasseff-Elenkoff (queen of the Laser Cutter here at Chelsea) to produce eye-catching portraiture that features this fabulous and familiar Faculty Member as the face of her current series of work. You can see this Oil Painting, titled 'The Feature (Isabelle)' on the front cover of Nyx Magazine, a publication devoted to Culture, Political Theory, Art and Politics created by MA and PhD students at Goldsmiths College.
Come and celebrate with us at the Magazine Launch, on Friday 10th May at the Bussey Building, Peckham.'
