The Final Hurdle

So we only have a few days left to go until the BA degree show is ready for viewing here at Chelsea College. The last final hurdles we refer to here in the Wood Workshop tend to take the form of large display furniture such as tables and plinths to show off the student work. With Fine Art all but done last Wednesday its fallen to the Graphics and Interior Design courses to keep us on our toes over the past few days. We really are looking forward to seeing all of the students hard work showcased over the next week. Below are some images taken over the past few days.

The ring was constructed in two halves. Now it was time to move them to the gallery space.

A very simple wooden frame was made with the students from Graduate Diploma Interior Design 

And then moved to the Banquet Hall to be worked on for the final show. 

FDA Interior students add the finishing touches to their display structure. Its amazing what you can achieve in a day with a little  perseverance!

We were visited yesterday by a very lovely Puma! 

Its hard not to miss it but in its final place and painted the ring is looking very impressive.

And so we enter the last full week that students have to complete their work ahead of assessment. The Wood Workshop has the usual faces with us putting the finishing touches to various pieces. Its amazing to think that another year has gone by and we are only a couple of weeks away from the degree show. I am sure this years will be great. The Perfect Storm

Its been an interesting week down with us in the Wood Workshop. Its not often you get students from various year groups and disciplines working towards different shows and exhibitions. We have been joined by students from MA Interior design, 2nd Year Textiles as well as the BA students finalising work for their degree show. We have weathered this storm and had some very lovely pieces being made. Below are a selection of images taken from the past week.

Phil introduces at yesterday evening late session. This one was all about show build and aimed at the 3rd year Fine Art students. Great turnout with around 30 in attendance.

We made sure many of the students got hands on with the equipment. Here we are constructing a timber framed wall.

Rueben from MA ISD looks very pleased with his recycled plinth that he has turned into a projection stand.

This is a scaled model taking shape of the interior layout of the hotel in the film 'The Shining'. Stef is helping Fine Art student Gerald build this one.

No time to breath....just yet.

These past days have seen some high numbers of students down with us in the Wood Workshop with some amazing consistency from certain courses who seem to be hitting the same figures week in week out. It's not surprising as the same faces join us to complete their final work in time for various assessments and of course the big one, degree show. Below are some images taken form the past few days.
