Degree Show 2015

So it's that time of year again when we get to finally see the fruits of our graduating students labour. And what a diverse and interesting show it is. It's always lovely to see how finished pieces have turned out, much of which will have passed through our workshop at some point. We in the Wood Workshop would like to congratulate all of the students on another fine years work. The show is on until Saturday 27th June. Below is a selection of images taken form the exhibition.

Sneak Peaks and The Final Push.

So this Friday will see the undergraduate show here at Chelsea College. Always full of excitement and much anticipated the day will start with a VIP breakfast and finish with the private view. For us it's been head down as we endeavour to help any students with their last minute needs or in the case of some of the design courses, help them with their show builds. We took a sneak peak through some of the closed studio doors and are really looking forward to seeing the work in it's finality at the end of the week. Below are some images taken in the past few days.

A glimpse into a Textile studio reveals the usual high standard of work
A peak into a Fine Art studio and there is plenty of intriguing work on display.

One of the Interior Design courses offering up a selection of models to be displayed.
There has been a lot of this going on in the past two days. Here we have students from BA Graphics finishing off a display plinth. One of many!

And another.
We will certainly require a little time to put the workshop back in shape at the end of this week!

The Finishing Touches

So we are into the last days now of making ready for next weeks assessments and degree show. There is still much to do for some whilst others are just about their. It is still a buzz of activity with us in the Wood Workshop, here at Chelsea as many of the students also visit us to build walls, plinths, shelves and other display items. One last push everyone and we are there! Below are some images taken from the past few days.

It's a hive of activity out on the parade ground as several students race to get their projects finished in time.
Stef helped Chrissy cut these out but they are actually the waste sections. Below is the object that was formed.

Trestle legs in the making for a display table
Fine Arts Henry clads his structure in strips of wood.
A curved piece of acrylic here having acrylic letters stuck on.

Phil helps to illuminate this plinth.
Sections of polystyrene foam being sculpted for a final piece of work.
A smaller acrylic ring this time with letters attached.
Finola puts together a stair case so we can all climb up onto her degree show structure.

The Final Push

We now have just a handful of days left of the final year students to finalise their work ready for assessment. This of course means hectic times down with us in the Wood Workshop here at Chelsea College and as such, sometimes it's hard to remember to photograph everything. Below though are a few images taken from the past few days.
